Welcome to Longwarry Primary School
Longwarry Primary School (LPS) is a welcoming rural school located in the West Gippsland township of Longwarry, approximately 85 kilometres east of Melbourne. As a Professional Learning Community, we are committed to improving student achievement, engagement and wellbeing through evidence-informed practice, collaborative professional learning and strong, positive relationships.
At LPS, we believe that meaningful relationships are fundamental to student success. We foster an inclusive, supportive and engaging learning environment where students, families, staff and the wider community work in partnership to help every child thrive.
Our instructional approach is grounded in the Science of Learning and evidence-informed teaching practices. Through the DATAWORKS Explicit Direct Instruction framework, we implement explicit teaching, consistent Engagement Norms and regular checks for understanding to ensure learning is structured, purposeful and engaging. These practices support students to build knowledge, develop essential skills and achieve their personal learning goals and curriculum-based outcomes.
With 150 students, LPS offers smaller class sizes and a strong adult-to-student ratio, enabling us to provide personalised support and respond to diverse learning needs. Our team of 28 staff includes classroom and specialist teachers, a learning tutor, a Mental Health in Schools Leader, a Disability Inclusion Coordinator, administration staff, integration aides, wellbeing staff and a specialist technician.
