What LANTITE is, and who has to sit it
The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education is a national test every Australian pre-service teacher must pass before they can be registered or accredited. It is set by ACER on behalf of the federal government, and it is separate from your university assessments: your teaching degree will not qualify you to teach until you have passed both components.
There are two components, literacy and numeracy, and they are marked independently. Each asks for achievement equivalent to the top 30% of the Australian adult population, so the standard is a band rather than a fixed mark. Passing one component does not carry the other, and since 2025 there is no limit on how many times you can sit each.
The test runs in a handful of windows each year, and registration closes well before each window opens. That timing catches people out more often than the difficulty does: miss a deadline in your final year and you can finish your degree without being able to take up a teaching position.
