Moonambel School Profile
Moonambel Primary School is a small rural government school situated in Victoria¿s Pyrenees district, approximately 20 kilometres from Avoca and 90 kilometres from Ballarat. Located on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, the school has served its community since 1875 and maintains a strong connection to the township and surrounding district.
Our motto, ¿Creating Bright Futures¿, reflects our commitment to helping every student develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed. We aim to nurture capable learners who participate positively in their community and approach new opportunities with curiosity and confidence.
The school provides education from Foundation to Year 6 across two composite classrooms: Foundation¿Year 2 and Years 3¿6. This setting enables staff to know students well, respond to individual learning needs and build strong relationships with families. Teachers work collaboratively to plan learning across year levels, providing targeted support and appropriate challenge within a cohesive school approach.
Teaching and learning are central to our improvement priorities. Recent work has focused on developing a whole-school Instructional Playbook and aligned planning processes to strengthen consistency in classroom practice. Our approach emphasises explicit teaching, clear explanations, modelling, guided practice, regular review and feedback. Literacy and numeracy are key priorities, with assessment informing teaching and the identification of students requiring additional support or extension.
