About the Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorate
The Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorate (AEC) values its strong partnership with the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. and Aboriginal communities. Together, they support NSW public schools to deliver high-quality teaching and maximise learning outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
The AEC provides leadership, strategic advice and direction on matters relating to Aboriginal education across the NSW Department of Education. The directorate comprises five units focused collectively on supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to reach their full potential, strengthening the teaching of Aboriginal cultures and histories for all students, contributing to Closing the Gap, and supporting the Connected Communities Strategy.
