Role description

Director - 2027 School Musical (Contract Position)

Emmaus College is seeking an experienced and passionate Director to lead our 2027 School Musical production.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and collaborative theatre practitioner to work with talented young performers and dedicated staff in delivering a high-quality musical production for our College community.

The successful applicant will bring artistic vision, strong organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to work positively with secondary school students.

Position Details

This is a fixed-term contract position for the 2027 production period.

The Director will be responsible for:

  • Developing and communicating the artistic vision for the production.
  • Conducting auditions and assisting with casting recommendations.
  • Planning and leading rehearsals.
  • Working closely with the Musical Director, Choreographer, and College staff.
  • Supporting student performers to achieve their potential in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Attending production meetings as required.
  • Leading all rehearsals during production week.
  • Directing all performances.

The role will primarily involve:

  • After-school rehearsals (typically 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm) twice a week
  • Selected weekend rehearsals as required.
  • Full attendance during the production week and performance season.

Contract Period

The engagement is expected to commence in Term 1, 2027 and conclude following the final performance and production debrief. The dates for the performance are 4 to 7 August 2027, including a middle of the day dress rehearsal on Wednesday 4 August.
