Teacher - English as an Additional Language/Dialect

This is a 12 month fixed term, part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2027 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency

Melville Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and committed English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) teacher to join our Intensive English Centre (IEC) in 2027.

Our IEC provides a welcoming and supportive learning environment for newly arrived secondary-aged students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including students from humanitarian and migrant backgrounds, as well as International Fee-Paying students. Students come to us with a wide range of educational experiences and levels of English proficiency and are supported to develop the language, literacy and learning skills needed to successfully transition into mainstream secondary schooling.

The Role

The successful applicant should have a strong understanding of EAL/D pedagogy and the explicit teaching of language through curriculum content. They should be able to design engaging, highly scaffolded learning programs that respond to students working across a range of English language proficiency levels.

A sound knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and WA EAL/D Progress Map is highly desirable, together with the ability to:

• explicitly teach oral language, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary
• develop students' language and literacy across curriculum areas
• use effective differentiation and scaffolding to support diverse learners
