Selection Criteria

• SC1 Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a significant area or function within a school, with experience in coordinating staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning.

• SC2 Demonstrated high-level knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment for students with diverse learning needs, and the ability to lead the implementation of evidence-based teaching practice.

• SC3 Demonstrated capacity to lead and implement evidence-based practices that support students with complex and challenging behaviours, including the development of positive behaviour support strategies.

• SC4 Demonstrated capacity to lead professional learning and support the performance and development of teaching staff.

• SC5 Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a leadership team structure and contribute to whole-school improvement.

• SC6 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and the ability to support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes.

Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range.  The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
