Location Profile

Sorrento Primary School is the southern-most school on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, and has served the students of the local area for over 150 years on several different sites. Its current setting is in attractive grounds near the centre of the historic Sorrento township. Current enrolment is 288.  We are a welcoming, intergenerational community with strong ties to local businesses and organisations.

The schools guiding principles are to provide a high quality education through a curriculum that has breadth, depth and relevance. The school is strongly committed to empowering children by placing an emphasis on literacy and numeracy and catering to the individual differences and abilities of each student. Students are encouraged to investigate and inquire.

A combination of straight and multi-age classrooms are used from year 1-6 with multi-age classes restricted to two year levels. A PLC approach to curriculum planning promotes consistency of delivery throughout the entire school.

Students are encouraged to learn outdoors, exploring their passions and interests. This is promoted through a rich Outdoor Education programme, starting with a unique Coastal School program for F-2, then extended to a rich Outdoor Education specialist subject incorporating elements of sustainability, connection to land, authentic indigenous education, and exploration of the local beaches and surrounds.
