Role description

Applications are invited from a suitably qualified, professional lab assistant who is enthusiastic, dedicated, and willing to support the Christian ethos of the College.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and understanding of correct procedures for preparing, handling, storing, and disposing of chemicals and other scientific material. Support teaching staff with practical activities in the classroom. With a strong working knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, laboratory, and safety practices.

This is a temporary full-time or part-time role for 4 weeks, starting from 24/08/2026 until 18/09/2026, with the possibility of a full-time contract in 2027.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Demonstrated ability to maintain a science laboratory 

  • The provision of technical services to the Science faculty that support the teaching of Science, including the preparation of experimental equipment 
  • Assist in the demonstration of experiments under the supervision of an academic staff member
  • Prepare, maintain, and dispense stock solutions, simple chemical mixtures, and compounds, cultures, or similar materials
  • Perform Laboratory Assistant duties according to Workplace Health & Safety requirements 
  • Be familiar with MSDS and hazardous substances and other chemicals and keep up-to-date records of these substances
  • Be familiar with the Chemwatch database system and RiskAssess, or similar.

Key competencies, skills & experiences:

  • Certificate in Laboratory Technology (analytical or scientific), or equivalent post-secondary qualification appropriate to the nature of the work
