Selection Criteria

SC1       Demonstrated excellence in EAL teaching, with the knowledge and skills to improve leaning outcomes for students with diverse needs (a TESOL qualification or equivalent is required).

SC2       Demonstrated experience in working with and understanding the needs to EAL refugee and refugee-like students and their families. 

SC3       Demonstrated skills in building instructional capacity of teachers and leaders through coaching, modelling and facilitating school based professional learning.

SC4       Demonstrated capacity of effectively analyse and use data to improve student learning outcomes.

SC5       Demonstrated understanding of current Department policies, programs and recourses.

SC6       Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the flexibility to adapt to and manage change. 

Role

The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2.  The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.  The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning. 

As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
