Role description


We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

We are looking for committed applicants who are passionate about supporting students with a range of additional needs including autism, intellectual disability, physical disability, sensory impairments, and complex behaviours. Staff should be adaptable and able to work with both homogenous ability groups and multi-age cohorts. Collaboration and teamwork are desirable in this role.

Key responsibilities:

Under the direction of teaching staff, suitable applicants will ideally:

  • Support students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Implement individualised education programs tailored to student needs.
  • Support students in developing communication skills and accessing their education through the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
  • Provide informed feedback on student progress and contribute to the evaluation of programs and achievement of goals.
  • Contribute positively to a professional, collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Knowledge of the TEACCH approach is highly desirable.
