Science Laboratory Technician

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory practices, procedures and equipment relevant to secondary school science.
2. Demonstrated understanding of OHS requirements, chemical management and safe laboratory operations.
3. Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students and support staff.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise initiative and contribute positively to a team environment.
6. Qualifications and/or experience in Laboratory Technology, Applied Science or a related field, preferably within an educational setting.

Role

This position is listed as 0.4 FTE, however the days and hours of attendance will be negotiable with the successful applicant.  

The Science Laboratory Technician provides high-level technical, operational and safety support to the Science Learning Area to enhance student learning outcomes across Years 7-12.

The role supports the preparation, delivery and evaluation of practical science programs by working collaboratively with teaching staff to design, trial and prepare experiments, manage laboratory operations, and ensure compliance with Department of Education and WorkSafe Victoria requirements.

Operating with a high degree of independence, the Science Laboratory Technician exercises judgement and discretion in the coordination of laboratory systems, chemical management, and safety procedures.
