Selection Criteria

SC 1 Demonstrated experience working with children and young people with disabilities, including intellectual disability, autism, developmental delay, communication difficulties, physical disabilities and/or complex learning needs.

SC 2 Demonstrated ability to follow therapy programs and educational interventions developed by allied health professionals and implement these effectively with individual students and small groups.

SC 3 Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, allied health professionals and education support staff.

SC 4 Demonstrated ability to prepare resources, maintain accurate records, collect data and manage competing priorities within a busy school environment.

SC 5 Demonstrated understanding of inclusive education principles and commitment to supporting student participation, independence, wellbeing and communication across all school environments.

SC 6 Demonstrated willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and apply evidence-based practices to support student outcomes.

Role

The Allied Health assistant (AHA) supports the delivery of allied health therapy services within a specialist school environment. Working under the delegation and supervision of qualified allied health professionals, the AHA assists with implementing therapy programs, preparing resources, supporting classroom integration of therapy strategies, and promoting student participation, communication, independence and well-being.
