Senior Laboratory Technician
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for an ongoing, part-time, Senior Laboratory Technician to become an integral part of the College’s Science Learning Area, commencing preferably before the end of Term 1, 2026.
The position will be offered 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm for 40 weeks per year.
We are seeking a vibrant, organised, proactive and knowledgeable individual who is committed to helping our students reach their full potential by leading and developing the College’s laboratory services.
The Senior Laboratory Technician will be committed to supporting students’ academic growth and must possess extensive knowledge of laboratory practices, safety standards, and scientific procedures.
The position will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:
• Leading and overseeing the daily laboratory operations, including supervising technical staff and ensuring practical classes run efficiently and effectively.
• Managing budgeting and procurement processes, supporting financial planning, monitoring expenditure, and coordinating purchasing of equipment and consumables.
• Ensuring safety governance and regulatory compliance, maintaining risk assessments, chemical registers, and adherence to WHS and chemical management requirements.
• Preparing and supporting practical science activities, including setup, reagent preparation, in-class technical assistance, and resource coordination.
• Maintaining laboratory facilities and resources, overseeing equipment maintenance, stock control, safe chemical storage, and overall laboratory organisation.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
The successful applicant will also have demonstrated experience working in a school laboratory environment.
A bachelor’s degree in Science or related field, relevant coaching certifications and knowledge of WorkSafe protocols will also be viewed favourably.

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field.
• Diploma of Laboratory Technology.
• Chemical Hazard Training.
Terms of Employment
• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
• Hold a current National Police Clearance from the Department of Education.
• Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.
• Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training and any other CEWA Mandatory training.
Highly Desirable
• Experience working in a school environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with students and colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and confident in different situations to provide assistance across a variety of tasks.
• Demonstrated knowledge of WorkSafe regulations and codes of practice, with proven experience in risk management and legislative compliance.
