Director of Basketball
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a part-time, with the possibility of a full-time position becoming available, for an ongoing Director of Basketball to become an integral part of the College’s Health and Physical Education Learning Area, commencing at the start of Term 2 (Monday 20th April 2026) or as soon as practicable.
We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable individual who is committed to helping our students reach their full potential by leading and developing the College’s Basketball Academy.
The Director of Basketball will be committed to fostering the athletic and personal growth of students and must possess an extensive knowledge of basketball.
The Director of Basketball will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:
• Planning, programming and organising for classes, sessions, games and tournaments within the Basketball Academy to promote learning and involvement.
• Teach basketball fundamentals, improve individual and team performance, and foster sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.
• Act as a role model and mentor to students, inspiring a love of basketball and guiding them toward success both on and off the court.
• Communicate regularly with parents, school staff and external stakeholders, promoting the College’s Basketball Academy.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
The successful applicant will also have demonstrated experience as a basketball coach, program director or basketball teacher, preferably at a school level.
A bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education or related field, relevant coaching certifications and knowledge of first aid/safety protocols will be viewed favourably.
Applicants who are not qualified teachers may still be considered, provided they demonstrate substantial experience in teaching and/or coaching basketball. In this case, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) through the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in Health and Physical Education
• Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
Terms of Employment
• Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC)
• Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools
• Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training
Highly Desirable
• Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum.
• An understanding of current educational perspectives.
• Experience working in a school environment and/or with high school students.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents/guardians and external partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
