The Role
Kiara College is seeking to appoint a Career Practitioner, a specialist teacher who would support the career development of students. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways. Our Career Practitioner would work with the school leadership team and embed career development and industry linked activities into curricular and co-curricular programs.
Ideally, the Career Practitioner should be an innovator and display the ability to work collaboratively across the school. The successful applicant should implement programs and provide resources to embed career development across learning areas. We are seeking a teacher that enjoys working with students to help them imagine and connect with their future career aspirations. Confidence to make decisions and enact necessary curriculum reform will be essential attributes for the role. Teacher in this specialist role will ideally be competent in the interpretation and analysis of system and school-based data. The role may include a face-to-face teaching component of up to 0.4 FTE delivering course of study such as Year 9 and 10 Career based elective and Yr 11 and 12 Career & Enterprise.
To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of tertiary entrance contexts, local employers, community agencies and training providers is desirable. The successful applicant should also have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, and local industry.
