Mount Garnet State School are seeking applications for a School Community Partnership Officer (Identified) to join their school community on a Temporary Full-time basis, from 23 April 2026 until 11
December 2026, unless otherwise determined.
Within this role you will have the opportunity to liaise with students, families and the community to develop and introduce strategies in the context of community engagement and co-design, to achieve and
promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education through strengthened community connections. Please note, this position does not attract Government housing.

About Mt Garnet State School
Established in 1901, Mt Garnet State School is a small and vibrant school with a focus on quality teaching and learning. Our school is in a regional setting, and services the township of Mt Garnet as well as the surrounding villages of Tabo, Innot Hot Springs, Battle Creek and Silver Valley. We have a current enrolment of approximately 60 students, inclusive of children enrolled in our State Delivered Kindy program. Our vision is to provide inclusive and holistic programs which cater for the diverse needs of all students. We are committed to providing our students with the skills and knowledge to enable access to further education and promising future pathways. Our staff promote an open-door policy within our school community and we encourage parents and caregivers to be involved in the life of our school and claim it for their children and themselves.
About the Role
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Work with the school community to develop, implement and monitor appropriate programs which raise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community awareness and participation in educational decision-making processes and which contribute to the implementation of Partnership Initiative priorities.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement to support community co-design that meet the needs of the school and community leaders and encourage partnerships with other regional, state, commonwealth and local government officers and local peak bodies.
- Assist school leaders and school community groups with advice and strategies for effective participation in education and access to information, resources and services through place-based co-design processes.
- Provide advice on current school and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community issues and effective community consultation and place-based decision-making processes.
Mandatory Requirements for an Identified Role:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
Applicants to this position may have to provide confirmation of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. Requesting proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage from applicants helps to make sure that this intention is honoured.
