About the role

Loreto College Ballarat, one of regional Victoria’s leading Catholic girls’ schools invites applications for the newly created role of Counselling Services Coordinator.

Founded in 1875 by Mother Gonzaga Barry, Loreto College Ballarat was the first Loreto school in Australia and continues in the tradition of Mary Ward. With an enrolment of 990 students, the College is committed to delivering a contemporary Catholic education that liberates, empowers and motivates young women to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity. The five values of a Loreto education – Freedom, Justice, Sincerity, Verity and Felicity underpin all aspects of College life.

As a key member of the College Wellbeing Team, the Counselling Services Coordinator provides strategic and operational leadership of the Counselling team while maintaining a small student caseload. You will lead a team of counsellors, fostering a collaborative, accountable and high-performing culture. You will oversee referral pathways, case allocation, waitlist management and case file systems to ensure a responsive, ethical and compliant service. Working closely with the Assistant Principal – Wellbeing, you will ensure counselling expertise informs preventative and developmental wellbeing practices across the College.

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will provide individual and, where appropriate, group counselling to students experiencing personal, social, emotional and educational challenges. Drawing on specialist knowledge of adolescent development and mental health, you will undertake assessment, case management, intervention, risk assessment and safety planning in line with legislative and professional standards. You will work collaboratively with staff, families and external providers to ensure coordinated, holistic support for students, while maintaining clear professional boundaries and confidentiality.

This role requires a highly skilled practitioner with relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling or a related discipline, and current registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA. You will bring demonstrated experience working with young people in educational settings, strong knowledge of adolescent mental health, proven leadership capability and a deep commitment to child safety and inclusive practice. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, sound professional judgement and a genuine commitment to child safety, inclusion and wellbeing are essential. The successful applicant must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children Check card and a National Police Record Check before employment.
