South Hedland Primary School (PS) is an Independent Public School, proudly catering to a diverse student population of approximately 240 students, with 56% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our school is well-regarded within the community for its strong sense of care and connection, providing a highly supportive learning environment built on positive relationships.

Our educational focus is firmly grounded in literacy, numeracy, attendance, and behaviour. We deliver consistent, high-quality teaching through the Explicit Direct Instruction model and promote positive student conduct using the Positive Behaviour Support framework. Students also benefit from a range of specialist programs in Visual Arts, Physical Education, Health, Technologies, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and Science. To encourage regular attendance, our dedicated School-Based Attendance Officer works alongside staff to implement proactive strategies and support processes.

Pastoral care is central to our approach, ensuring every student feels valued, included and ready to learn. Collaboration is a defining feature of our school culture, with staff participating in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data analysis, shared planning, professional growth, and consistent implementation of whole-school initiatives.
