Description
We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Bob Hawke College enrolled 254 Year 7 students in February 2020 and has grown to a current enrolment of 1,612. Around 20% of students have an imputed or diagnosed disability, including Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disabilities, generalised anxiety, and Diabetes. Additionally, 25% of students speak a language other than English at home, and the College includes 34 Aboriginal students.
The College was established as an inclusive learning environment from the start, including all students into general classrooms with flexible structures and groupings. All students access the core curriculum with necessary adjustments and supports, ensuring meaningful participation alongside their peers. Education Assistants support, but do not provide a separate education. Teachers are responsible for all students and use strategies like Explicit Instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and differentiation to promote access, belonging, and success.
