Position Information
Kogarah High School is a vibrant coeducational secondary school located in the Sydney South Metropolitan area. We take pride in our diverse and culturally rich community, fostering a dynamic school culture that emphasises the development of engaged learners and responsible citizens. Our student population exceeds 700, representing over 20 distinct culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Notably, 84.4% of our students come from Language Backgrounds other than English, with 20% receiving specialised support from our English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) teachers. Our school also features an Intensive English Centre, a Hearing Support unit, a class for students with mild intellectual disabilities, and three classes dedicated to students with Autism. At Kogarah High School, we value collaboration and support in our learning environment for students of all abilities. Our qualified and experienced staff work closely with students, parents, and the wider community to create an engaging atmosphere enriched with resources that enhance educational experiences. Our dedicated Learning Support team, which includes specialist EALD teachers, Learning Support teachers, and School Learning Support Officers, regularly monitors student progress and implements evidence-informed interventions to ensure that every child achieves growth each year including through our Enrichment Program for our HPG students.
Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach special education teaching students with Autism and Mild Intellectual Disability.
2. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and differentiate quality teaching and learning programs, including the development of Personalised Learning Support and Behaviour Management Plans while monitoring student progress to improve outcomes in an inclusive environment with high expectations.
3. Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively and proactively with students, staff, parents/carers, school learning support officers, external agencies, and the wider community to build positive relationships and support student growth.
4. Experienced in contributing to faculty planning and whole school programs by designing and delivering data-informed, evidence-based teaching strategies that foster student engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement within the Special Education Unit.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
