In this role you will:

  • Assist Court Liaison Officers in supporting young people in the youth justice system to engage, or reengage, with education and training.
  • Provide support to young people and their families to ensure they are well informed of their available options relating to viable education and training pathways.
  • Work with and support the needs of vulnerable young people from diverse and complex backgrounds, including First Nations young persons, young persons with disability and young persons in care.
  • Provide support to schools that will assist in the development and implementation of successful retention and transition strategies and programs that will improve the education outcomes for vulnerable students.
  • Forge links with external government departments, community agencies and training organisations to ensure young people in the youth justice system receive the appropriate support.
  • Establish and maintain effective networks with school-based support staff across a cluster of schools to secure provision of support and interventions as necessary to create scaffolding that is unique to the demographic and nature of individual transition management.

We are looking for:

  • Experience working with at-risk or disengaged students and families.
  • Ability to develop and implement support plans.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with families, schools, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, especially working with First Nations students and diverse backgrounds.
  • High standards of confidentiality, conduct, and information privacy.

The following would also be favourable:

  • Familiarity with education, youth justice or child protection systems.
  • Prior experience in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of inclusive education principles.
