We are seeking a permanent full-time Head of Special Education Services for Freshwater State School. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the Special Education Program, providing instructional leadership and coaching to teachers and staff. You will support students with disability through inclusive, high-quality teaching and targeted interventions, and build strong partnerships with families and external providers to achieve positive, student-centred outcomes.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead and coordinate inclusive education programs: Manage the delivery of high-quality support through the Special Education and/or Early Childhood Development Program, ensuring effective services for students with disability.
  • Provide expert advice and targeted intervention: Guide school leaders and teachers in planning and implementing reasonable adjustments, deliver intensive targeted teaching, and coordinate case management for students requiring substantial support.
  • Strengthen staff capability and access to supports: Assist teachers to access specialist services and professional development, building staff capacity to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Embed effective systems and collaborative practices: Contribute to school planning and decision-making, implement school-wide data systems, and oversee processes such as the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
  • Build partnerships and manage resources strategically: Develop strong relationships with parents, government agencies, and community groups, while effectively managing human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources to achieve program goals.

Highly desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience supporting students with disability and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive education and reasonable adjustments.
  • Proven ability to lead, collaborate, and communicate effectively.
  • Previous experience in a HOSES or similar leadership role.
  • Qualifications or training in special education or inclusive practice.
