Details: This position requires a dynamic leader with initiative to support the development and implementation of a range of Directorate initiatives related to safe and supportive school environments with a focus on student wellbeing, inclusion and engagement. Programs include student voice and reducing the prevalence of bullying, violence, harassment and discrimination in ACT public schools. The role contributes to the development other policies, programs and projects that are delivered by the broader Wellbeing and Inclusion Policy and Service Design team.

The officer will also be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and improving the Safe and Supportive Schools policy, including through any revision, as well as associated resources.  An understanding of policy and government procedures and the ability to support Government business are also a requirement for this role.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • A minimum of four years full time (or equivalent) tertiary study leading to the award of a recognised school teaching qualification.
  • Current professional teaching registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) or eligibility to obtain.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au)

Highly Desirable

  • Demonstrated understanding of the National Student Wellbeing Framework, the Directorate’s Safe and Supportive Schools policy and relevant legislation.
  • Proven ability to support student wellbeing as a foundation for learning, with a commitment to amplifying student voice in shaping safe and inclusive school environments.
  • Familiarity with national and Directorate initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to bullying, harassment, and discrimination, with a focus on empowering students to contribute to school culture and safety.
