Position Information

Kandeer School is a School for Specific Purpose (22 enrolments including 50% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander) in Albury for students in Years 5 to 10 with Emotional Disturbances and Behaviour Disorders. There are three emotional disturbance (ED) classes and one behaviour difficulties (BD) class. School staff work in collaboration with varying organisations to enlist the best services on offer to support students. Kandeer School offers an alternative educational approach to support complex learners.

Kandeer School operates on a transition model; all students are shared enrolments with their local mainstream school and participate in at least one day per week transition. Kandeer School staff support students at their home schools during their transition visits. Our school aims to support students through an individual case management approach to integrate successfully back into a mainstream school, or develop skills that will enhance their ability to positively engage in the wider community.

Personalised Learning and Support Plans are developed for each student focusing on academic, social/emotional and transition goals. Class programs use mainstream content and outcomes encompassing all key learning areas.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience/willingness to teach students with behaviour difficulties and emotional disturbance.

Highly developed organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team to build positive relationships with students, staff, key stakeholders, and external agencies.

Knowledge and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy, and the capacity to build meaningful connections with Aboriginal students, their families, and the wider community.

Evidence of curriculum knowledge and effective classroom practice that includes the ability to meet the complex academic, emotional, social, and well-being needs of students through differentiated curriculum, classroom management, and innovative program design.
