Selection Criteria

1. Experience Supporting Students with Diverse Learning Needs

  • Previous experience in classrooms, early childhood, disability support, or similar settings desirable.

  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive, especially with students who need extra help to feel safe and regulated.

     

2. Capacity to Follow Direction and Established Protocols

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under teacher/coach guidance.

  • Commitment to learning and applying structured SBT procedures with fidelity.

3. Strong Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to build rapport with students through warmth, playfulness, and positive interactions.

  • Clear communication skills with staff and students.

4. Understanding of Inclusive Practice and Student Safety

  • Awareness of student dignity, trauma-informed practice, and DET child safety requirements.

  • Commitment to supporting safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments.

5. Willingness to Participate in Training

  • Openness to coaching and reflective practice.

  • Commitment to developing skills in SBT, positive behaviour support, and student inclusion.
