Selection Criteria
KSC 1
Demonstrated ability to effectively address the complex healthcare needs of students and proven competency and experience in paediatric clinical nursing assessment.
KSC 2
Demonstrated experience in effective record keeping, information management, clinical assessment, and care planning.
KSC 3
Demonstrated ability in managing and maintaining high levels of confidentiality and professional conduct.
KSC 4
Demonstrated capacity to assume management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of services, with the ability to direct and supervise the work of other staff members.
Role
School nurses support the school in addressing contemporary health and social issues facing children and young people with a focus on health promotion and primary prevention including health education, classroom education sessions and small group education and limited primary health care including student assessment, referral and support. School Nurses works collaboratively with students, teachers, wellbeing staff, school leadership and school communities to build capacity and improve health outcomes.
Responsibilities
School Nurses undertake a variety of roles and responsibilities that may include (but are not limited to):
- Implement nursing interventions including referral as appropriate via the child¿s parent or guardian to health professionals/agencies
- Provide a follow-up service, which ensures children with health-related problems receive appropriate assistance
- Carry out health promotion/education within program guidelines and act as a health resource to the school community
