Location Profile

Aurora School is a Department of Education School providing optimal learning environments for young children who are deaf or deaf and blind and their families across the State of Victoria. Communication, language and literacy form the foundation of Aurora's bilingual programs (English and Auslan), supporting each child's development. 

Aurora's Early Intervention program is available to families of children, throughout Victoria, for those children who have a confirmed bilateral hearing loss, aged from birth until school entry. Staff work in partnership with families providing regular home-based and group sessions. Early Intervention staff work in collaborative teams which include teachers of the deaf, psychologists, social workers, speech and language therapists, and deaf educators. 

 

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Registration as a psychologist with the Ahpra & National Boards.

  2. A sound knowledge of early childhood development and appropriate experience as a psychologist either with families who have young deaf children and/or children with additional disabilities and /or experience in an educational environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage and build rapport with families. 
  4. Sound knowledge of psychological intervention techniques and strategies suitable for young deaf children and their families.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a key member of a collaborative team in the delivery of quality programs.
