Role description
This is a 1 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2026
Carnarvon School of the Air (SOTA) is one of 5 Schools of the Air based in Western Australia. In the home school room students are assisted by a home tutor, usually the student's mother or a hired tutor. Students 'meet' their fellow students daily on-air in their 'virtual classroom' where teachers conduct lessons with the capacity for each student to see each other.
Once or twice each year, teachers visit each of their students and home tutors to provide face to face learning support required to meet the educational needs of everyone. Students also meet at several locations throughout the year to engage in educational programs, sports activities and school camps.
Carnarvon is the regional centre for the Gascoyne and is positioned at the mouth of the Gascoyne River, 904 km north of Perth, between two World Heritage areas – Shark Bay to the south and the Ningaloo Reef which begins just north of the town site of Carnarvon.
The Shire of Carnarvon encompasses an area of 53,000 square km, including popular tourist locations, Gladstone beach (to the south), Blowholes, Quobba (including Red Bluff), Gnaraloo Station, Warroora Station and Coral Bay to the north. The town also acts as the gateway to the world’s largest Monolith Mt Augustus, and the Kennedy Range national park, located to the east of Carnarvon (within the Shire of Upper Gascoyne).
