Role description
The Assistant Head of Science supports the Head of Science in departmental leadership, administration, curriculum and pedagogy. The role contributes to the development and implementation of a shared departmental vision that promotes high quality teaching, effective learning practices and innovative curriculum delivery.
Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of teaching and learning programs, assessments, scope and sequence documentation, reporting, record keeping and the analysis of student achievement data including NAPLAN, ESSA, EAAA Science competitions and HSC results.
The Assistant Head of Science fosters a collaborative and collegial culture within the Science Department and the wider College community while ensuring NESA compliance across Years 7 to 12. The role involves supporting curriculum review, examination and assessment processes, reporting, moderation and the monitoring of student progress, including targeted support for students with additional learning needs and extension for gifted and talented students. It also includes coordination of Year 7 to 10 assessments, examinations, excursions, STEM initiatives and responses to syllabus changes.
The Assistant Head of Science plays an active role in staff development through professional feedback, meeting facilitation, policy development, class allocations and support for professional learning.
