Role description
Mid North Education Centre is a specialist school catering for students from Reception to Year 12. Our students present with a diverse range of disabilities, including physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, and complex communication needs. Many students are non-verbal and require highly individualised support to access learning.
The successful applicant will demonstrate experience and capability in working with students with complex needs, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems. Knowledge of, and experience with, AAC approaches-particularly PODD and Proloquo2Go-is essential.
Teaching and learning programs are aligned with the Australian Curriculum (R-12) and are highly individualised through One Plans, which outline specific learning goals for each student. The school utilises ABLES SA to assess student progress and inform planning; familiarity with this framework is desirable.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience in differentiating curriculum to meet diverse learning needs. Experience in delivering a balanced literacy approach, particularly the Jane Farrall model, is highly desirable.
The ability to implement effective behaviour support strategies is essential. The school adopts a whole-site Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, and staff are expected to contribute to a consistent, supportive, and inclusive learning environment across both classroom and community settings.
