Context
As a small rural school, KTHS provides strong opportunities for staff to take on additional responsibilities that support career development. In 2022, the school received The Age Schools That Excel award for sustained VCE improvement over the past decade. More recently, the school installed an iFarm, a $120,000 computerised hothouse¿one of only 50 in Australia¿providing a significant learning resource across multiple subject areas.
Kerang is centrally located between Swan Hill, Echuca and Bendigo in Victoria¿s productive northwest irrigation district. With a town population of around 4,000 and a district population of over 12,000, the region¿s major industries include agriculture, dairy, engineering and horticulture, with many students coming from farming backgrounds.
KTHS draws students from fivee primary schools, maintaining strong ties through shared professional learning and a well¿established transition program. Due to the school¿s wide geographic catchment, many students travel by bus.
Established as a Higher Elementary School in 1913 and proclaimed a High School in 1919, KTHS gained its Technical Wing in 1973.
