Role description
The role, Education Officer: English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) aims to:
- support schools, classroom teachers and curriculum leaders to develop and effectively implement responses to support the curriculum learning needs of all EAL/D students.
- the EAL/D Education Officer mentors, monitors and actively engages in the English language development, academic performance and wellbeing of schools supporting each EAL/D student.
- support schools to create a positive and engaging learning environment, and professional practice informed by contemporary pedagogical EAL/D research.
- supports EAL/D teachers to gather, collate and share student linguistic profiles, and use the EAL/D Learning Progression in conjunction with the ESL Scales and NSW syllabus documents to inform their practice – planning, creating and delivering effective and meaningful English language learning activities according to these documents.
- deliver professional learning for schools and EAL/D teaching staff as required The Education Officer: English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) is responsible to the Director of Schools through the Head of Student Learning and Support.
All Education Officers will be supported with ongoing professional learning and networking opportunities to improve their knowledge and professional capacity.
